Chatrooms on the Community or Pro tiers are able to view IP Addresses associated with messages sent in the chatroom.
To set it up, go to your Chat Settings page, and click "IP Addresses" under Premium Settings. Note, you must be on the Community or Pro chat tier in order to access this menu.
Once here, you will see an option to enable the functionality, as well as the ability to change which rank can view IPs.
This feature will be available as long as your chat is on the paid tier.
Warnings & Clauses
Once you enable IP Viewing on your chatroom, a full-screen overlay will appear to all users, requiring them to give their consent to sharing their IP Addresses with the staff of your chat. This "just-in-time notice" is in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and can not be amended or disabled via CSS.
Some users may find this message intimidating and leave your chat. For this reason, we recommend you only enable this setting if you find it an absolute necessity.
Only messages sent while this setting is enabled will have the IP Addresses viewable. You can not view IPs on messages sent before this setting was enabled, under any circumstance. This way, only users who explicitly give consent to their IP Address being viewable are at risk.
To view IPs, click the three dots next to a message, and click "View IP". An overlay will appear with the user's IP Address, as well as general location data.
Furthermore, if a user has used that IP address on another account while you had the IP Address viewing setting enabled, their username will appear in this menu, as well. This way, if you suspect a troublemaker of being familiar, you can quickly see matching accounts under that IP via this menu.
